Who the Governors are 

Steve Mott   I   Chair of Governors

Steve has three children at Saint Sebastians. Being elected as a Parent Governor and Health and Safety representative for the Governing Body means that Steve has strategic responsibilities to ensure that the school retains its safe, welcoming and comfortable learning environment for the children, teachers and visitors. He has subject responsibility for Physical Education which fits well with his outside hobbies where Steve is a Triathlon Coach with Reading Rascals and also competes in long distance triathlons and swimming events.

Colin Rouse   I   Head Teacher

Colin is a 59 year old Headteacher with 37 years' experience as a teacher, married for 35 years to Gillian, a retired midwife. He has three children, Andrew 30, running his own successful business as a biomechanics coach and fitness instructor, Sarah-Louise, our Early Years Professional and Pippa who is currently working at Virgin Active having achieved a sport science degree last year. When not headmastering Colin enjoys being a season ticket holder at Reading FC, real ale and his beloved Manchester United!

Heather Barnes   I   Deputy Head Teacher

Mrs Barnes is currently the Deputy Head teacher and the Year 6 teacher. She joined Saint Sebastian’s in 2001, initially on a part-time basis. Mrs Barnes fully embraces the ethos of the school and aims to help lead the school to becoming outstanding. Although her real passion is for Mathematics, Mrs Barnes believes all children should have the opportunity to reach their potential both academically and personally.

Her own personal achievements include running the New York Marathon and skydiving, but she is happiest when spending time with her family.

Julia Mead  I  Finance

Term : January 2016 - [co-opted Governor]

Julia re -joined the school in 2015, having spent the previous 18 months as the School Business Manager for two brand new Academy primary schools in Wokingham, who are part of a Surrey based Multi Academy Trust. She was the School Business Manager at Saint Sebastian’s from 2008 – 2014.  Julia is a member of the Wokingham Schools Forum, a body that considers matters relating to schools funding and she has also assisted other local primary schools on schools financial management.

Julia is a Chartered Accountant, having trained and qualified with one of the big four firms, Ernst and Young. In her spare time she plays the trumpet and is the Chairman of Reading Symphony Orchestra.  She has two boys, one who is studying at the University of Oxford and the other who is in Year 12 at Reading School.


Fiona Hardman  I  Associate Governor

Fiona has two daughters who have attended Saint Sebastian's. Her eldest daughter has just moved on to Secondary School.  Both girls love the school, it’s staff, values and ethos.

Fiona is a primary school teacher with over 20 years  experience.  She was previously a school governor in Cambridge, where she was involved in setting up a brand new school. Fiona is pleased to join the governors at Saint Sebastian’s and contribute in any wayshe can to help the school continue to provide the very best education for all their children.

Mike Tompsett   I  

Mike has two children at Saint Sebastian's in year 2 and year 4. Mike was elected as a Foundation Governor through Saint Sebastian's Church and is actively involved in the local Beaver pack. Mike has over 20 years professional experience within the consumer goods manufacturing industry focused on delivering the best manufacturing quality levels for its customers consumers and regulators. It is this level of attention to detail and quality assurance that ensures he will be instrumental to supporting the school in its attainment of outstanding in its services to the children

Anne Atmore   I   Curriculum and Assessment

Anne has been employed at Saint Sebastian's for twenty years as a teaching assistant and she has been Learning Support Manager for the last ten. This is her third term as a governor. Anne was previously PTA Chair and also school secretary for a while. She has three daughters who attended the school and have all now graduated from university. Anne has also gained two super son-in-laws along the way! She enjoys helping children achieve their potential and is passionate about netball. This is reflected in the success the school has achieved over the years. Anne also enjoys spending time with her family, when not at work, and enjoys travelling, sampling good food and drink!

Nigel Birch   I   

Nigel has been involved in the school since the 1980's. This was initially as a parent but also as a regular church member supporting many activities within the church. Nigel was part of the Health & Safety Committee but has now joined the Staff and Pupil Care committee. Following a career in Applied Research (Pesticides) and then Further Education in Business Support / Data Systems, Nigel has gained a range of skills and experiences relevant in supporting the staff and Saint Sebastians School.

Andrew Marsden   I   Vicar of Saint Sebastians

Andrew is the Vicar of St Sebastian’s Church and as such is an ex officio Governor.  He is one of the most experienced Governors, having served in this capacity since 1997.  He is Chairman of the  Admissions Committee and a member of the Staff and Pupil Care Committee, as well as being subject governor for RE and History.  He and other members of the church work closely with the School to help it fulfil its aim of being a learning community with Jesus at the centre.

Martine Margetts   I   Clerk to the Governors 

Martine has worked in the office at Saint Sebastian’s school since 2004 and has been Clerk to the Governors since 2011. Her 3 children were pupils at the school. Before having her family, Martine worked in HR, Training and as a Senior Secretary for a large IT company. She enjoys travelling and spending time with her family.

Mary Unwin     

Mary has three children, who are now adults and was a Parent Governor at the Infant school they attended. She has worked in Education for over 20 years, in Special Needs, as a school secretary and is currently a Student Adviser for University College of Estate Management based in Reading. She is keen to support the school vision to provide the right learning environment for children to reach their full potential. Mary is a member of Saint Sebastian’s Church and enjoys walking, open water swimming, travelling and spending time with her family and friends.

Irela Malik 

Irela is a Nurse with over 30 years experience working in Primary and Secondary Care. She has lived in Wokingham since 1990. She is married with two adult daughters. Her eldest daughter is a primary school teacher in America. The youngest has two young sons, the eldest of whom attends Saint Sebastian's. Irela enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, walking her dog, gardening and travelling.
Irela was motivated to join the Governing Body because she has a desire to care for and nuture the next generation. She regularly volunteers in school to help with reading and school visits and was impressed with the high standard of teaching, progress made and individual care of each child.

Jane Addison

Jane has two adult children, Katherine and Tom, who have graduated and are now working. During their time as pupils at Saint Sebastian’s, Jane was involved in a number of volunteer positions, including Netball coach and PTA chairman.  She was also clerk to the governors between 2002 and 2007.  She is a member of St. Sebastian’s Church and sees the relationship between the School and the Church as vital.  Her interests are dog walking, skiing, travelling, crafts and, of course, spending time with friends and family
