Martin Gater     Head Teacher (Ex - Officio)

I started teaching in 2002 and since then have worked in schools in Wokingham and Bracknell Forest. I am passionate about teaching and learning and the fact that we are all continuously learning. However, in order for children to learn they need to feel happy, valued, safe and secure.

I am married with a young child, who is starting school this year. That is all very exciting but does present its own worries too, as I am sure you will all understand. I am a big football and rugby fan and love going to watch live sporting events. I even went to a cricket match in the summer! I also enjoy going to the theatre, cinema, travelling, reading and relaxing with my family.

Heather Barnes     Deputy Head Teacher (Co - Opted Governor)

Mrs Barnes is currently the Deputy Head teacher and the Year 6 teacher. She joined Saint Sebastian’s in 2001, initially on a part-time basis. Mrs Barnes fully embraces the ethos of the school and aims to help lead the school to becoming outstanding. Although her real passion is for Mathematics, Mrs Barnes believes all children should have the opportunity to reach their potential both academically and personally.

Her own personal achievements include running the New York Marathon and skydiving, but she is happiest when spending time with her family.

Ruth did work previously at St Sebastian’s school and so was able to become familiar with the school through the eyes of a teacher and as a parent. Ruth is part of the Staff and Pupil Care with Health and Safety Committee.  She has a strong interest in children’s emotional health and wellbeing.
