Inspiring and nurturing young hearts and minds

Foundation Stage

The children in Foundation Stage follow a curriculum based on well planned play activities and are monitored through observations as they act and interact with their peers and adults.

Before starting school the children have two visits when they will meet their teacher and the children in their class. They will also be assigned a buddy from Year 6 who will look after them in and around the school and help them to settle in. Parents are encouraged to contribute to their child's learning journey by sharing their successes outside of school with us. The early years curriculum encompasses 7 areas:

  • learning and development
  • personal, social and emotional development
  • physical development
  • communication and language literacy
  • mathematics
  • understanding the world and
  • expressive arts and design

The Foundation Stage class at Saint Sebastian’s Primary School will deliver a fun  safe learning environment for your child, whilst providing a firm foundation on which to build future academic, and social skills to pave their journey in life.

We recognise that every child is unique, and will join the school with differing levels of prior learning and social skills, so it is our desire that, by the time they leave our Foundation Stage class, children are:

  • happy, resilient, capable, confident and self-assured individuals;
  • strong, inquisitive and independent learners who thrive in all areas of learning and development;
  • capable of developing and sustaining positive relationships within their school community and beyond;
  • are well rounded and have a passion for learning and a desire to know more.
