Computing

Computing at St. Sebastian’s Church of England Primary School and Nursery

Our computing curriculum prepares children to thrive in an increasingly digital world. We aim to develop essential skills in computer science, information technology, and digital literacy, while ensuring every child understands the importance of online safety.

Our Approach

  • Progressive Curriculum: Based on the National Curriculum and delivered through Kapow units, ensuring skill progression across all key stages.
  • Key Learning Areas: Programming, data handling, creating media, computing systems and networks, and safe online practices.
  • Resources & Time: Weekly lessons using iPads, laptops, Bee-Bots, data loggers, and micro:bits. KS1 lessons last 30–45 minutes; KS2 lessons about 45 minutes.

Early Years (EYFS)

Computing in EYFS is play-based and mostly unplugged, focusing on listening, creativity, and problem-solving. Activities include:

  • Giving and following instructions
  • Programming with Bee-Bots
  • Taking photos and exploring simple technology
  • Introducing basic computer skills in the summer term

Assessment & Impact

We monitor progress through pupil voice, work scrutiny, and formative assessment. Children are assessed at the start and end of each unit using Kapow’s questions, with results recorded on Sonar.

Our Vision

To equip every child with the confidence and skills to use technology responsibly and creatively, preparing them for life beyond school.
